Hi all. Since Monday evening I have had sharp pains between my ribcage (I'm 25 so I don't think it is heart related) but beginning last night, my stool has gone from the typical mustard color to dark black. I have not eaten anything dark nor do I take Iron supplements. I have also had some vomiting over the weekend and constant nausea. Should the dark stool and upper gastric pain be a cause for concern? My family doctor is closed this week, and I have yet to hear back from my GI doctor.
Thank you!
This sure sounds like upper GI bleeding to me. Dark black "tarry" stools (melena) suggest bleeding from the esophagus or stomach (or thereabouts). If you're still actively bleeding you could get into real trouble, unless it's very slow. I'd get this checked out sooner rather than later.

Did the vomitus show any signs of blood?
