I have a hard lump that was originally diagnosed as a vaginal cyst.

However, it has increased in size and is very painful. It is inflamed now and hurts to sit down and causes pain during intercourse. You can't see it on the outside, but I can feel it.

When I saw my GI doctor she thought it was vaginal related, but when I saw my gyno she thought it was related to my pouch. Basically, you can feel it in the vagina, but it's in the area between the vagina and the anus. The "lump" appears to get larger when I'm having a flare up of pouchitis and having increased bm.

I spoke with my surgeon today and he wants to examine me and possibly remove it. He said he would have a gyno present during the surgery.

Has anyone experienced this? Does this sound like a cyst, scar tissue, or a fistula?

I have been dealing with this for about a year and a half and it seems to be increasing in size and causing me more discomfort.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the response Jan. Smiler

I'm wondering why the docs haven't suggested that it's an abscess or a fistula. How would they test for that? I asked about some sort of imaging, but the gyno thought it wouldn't be seen with a vaginal ultra sound. What other types of imaging could they do?

They just seemed stumped and I get the feeling they don't want to deal with me because they aren't familiar with my pouch. They just keep passing me back and forth, but giving me no answers.

I'm definitely not having surgery until I know more about what this is.

This sounds exactly like what I had! I had the lump for about a year an a half, going once to my general doctor, once to my OB and finally to my colorectal surgeon twice! My "lump" was in my perianal area. He finally did a pouchoscopy and said it was either an infected bartholin cyst or an abcess. He did an exam under anesthesia and it turned out to be an abcess that is now a fistula, it is draining now and im waiting(I'm pregnant now) to have a seton drain put I have and have they fistula repaired.

Sounds like what I had. I had a rectovaginal fistula. It started out small and within days it grew to where it was painful to sit down. My gyno DR said it was a cyst so I went in for surgery only to find out that it was a fistula. It was a wasted surgery and a painful one for no reason. After finding out it was a fistula, my gastro DR put me on Remicade. I think that it is a miracle drug. Not only is my fistula gone but my Crohn's is under control. I would definitely get a second opinion before surgery. Good Luck to you!
