If I were in your situation I’d accept the oral contrast. I don’t think it’s likely to do your pouch any harm, and it will help the test reveal what it’s intended to reveal.
I would absolutely drink the contrast. It does taste horrible and makes one nauseous sometimes, but it should not have any long lasting effect on the JPouch. It all goes through you pretty quickly. The contrast physically touching the intestinal tract (via drinking) has an important diagnostic role. You want to get the best imaging possible. I would imagine the doctor or the technician would be unsupportive of skipping the oral contrast unless it was a very special case. Good luck with it, and stay close to a bathroom after the test for a little while. Best Doug
The oral contrast is no big deal. I do it every year. Yes it takes a few trips to the bathroom but eventually all goes back to your normal, and it gives the doctor what he/she needs to see. Never a problem for my pouch and never got any nausea…..good luck. We are here for you.
