Hi gang!

Sorry, me, yet again (my last ileostomy was in 1991, kind of forgot everything, getting old ya know Razzer ), this time, I'm curious as to what you do to conceal your bag while out of the house. Today was my first day out in public with my ileostomy since my surgery on the 4th, and was dumbfounded as to what to do with my dangling bag. For the moment, I'm just tucking the bottom of it into my underwear or my pants, but it still leaves quite the unsightly bulge in my clothes, so, how do you manage to conceal it, or do you even bother? Personally, I'd prefer to hide it, out of sight, out of mind, until it starts farting that is! Lol! I've heard of ileostomy belts you can use to keep the bag close to the body, but have absolutely no idea of where I can buy them here in Toronto. Thankfully, I wear scrubs at work, so upon my return, I need only buy new scrub shirts a size bigger so no one will even notice it. Luckily, my stoma is almost at the same height as my belly button, so I don't have to worry too much about my waist line blocking my stoma, but I just don't want to have to wear shirts so long they look more like a dress then a shirt (except Halloween, but that's a different topic all together!lol!). Any tips? Just curious, thanks, as always, for your invaluable input, it's much appreciated, and I promise I'll try to not keep harassing all of you with so many questions,

Cheers
Eric Razzer

Ps - feeling 100% better then I did a week ago. Still nowhere close to being normal yet, but I can now eat without throwing up, and I'm getting a little more energy back, a few more weeks and I'll be good to go!

Eric,

I wear the phoenix ostomy belt. It requires that the bag is sidways. I have never had a problem wearing it that way. Keeps bag close and secure don't feel any added weight. All of my shirts have some sort of design on them. A lot of plaid shirts, it makes the "bump" invisible.

If you get any ostomy belt, wait until the swelling has gone down.

Good Luck
HI Eric,

I am so glad you are feeling better.

This ileostomy thing sure is a trip, isn't it?

Here is what I have tried, since I have had my permanent ileostomy.

I tried the pheonix belt, and wearing the bag sideways wasn't an issue, however, the belt itself was bulky, hot, and just plain uncomfortable. You also completely lose your wasteline, and I like to wear somewhat form fitting clothing. This also requireds a 2 piece system, and I know from other posts, you were probably going with a one piece.

Next I tried the stealth belt. It was expensive, and needs to be custom ordered. It slid and rolled all over the place. It was the most uncomfortable device I have ever used, and I wasted good money on it. A major dissappointment!

Last, I found Ostomysecrets.com. They have undergarments for both men and women. I can only speak of the products for women, but if the mens are anything like it, then you have found your miracle! They conceal your bag, are very comfortable, and I personally can wear the clothes I love to wear. I work at a high school, and attended the prom this week. I wore a form fitting dress, and noone had any idea.

I wish you luck! I have followed your story, and feel for you. I know how defeating it is to lose what you have fought so hard for first hand. It has taken time to get use to, but personally speaking, I have my life back. I wish the same for you!
