Yes.
I read about it. I have been naturally doing it for years. But not throwing myself into an ice bath. There are rules to follow whether you are cardiac or not.
Firstly, start out very slowly. Turn the water temperature in your shower down, slowly until it gets cold. Or start with your feet. (great for swollen ankles and calves)...run the cold water up and down your legs and feet for 1 minute.
See if you can go any higher. As time goes by you will be able to progress. I find the hardest part is the belly and shoulders. You can also try feet then back of neck, feet then belly...do not start brutally, all at once.
I grew up in the north so we tended to throw ourselves, as kids, into ice-cold lakes. I still do it if and when I have a chance. But, I NEVER do it after a meal. I never do it if I am sick. I like to do it in the mornings after coffee. Keep your stomach empty prior to doing it or you will cramps and throw up. Ice water stalls or stops digestion. (the good old adage of not going swimming after lunch is true)
You can also fill a basin or bucket or pool with cold water and just plunge your feet into it throughout the day.
They say that it is one of the only activities other than 'fight or flight' mode that help to regenerate certain cells in the body...True? I do not know for sure but I sure do feel more alive afterwards.
PS. it is a great way to burn calories too! but I just do it for the fun!
