Hi,

I've had my j-pouch for almost 9 yrs. I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing pouchitis at the moment but I also have pain and discomfort occurring inside around my old ileostomy site. I am seeing my surgeon on Friday but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this? Could the two issues be related? I haven't been eating and when I do I'm eating carbs but the pain is still there.

Thank you.

Hi Shelley,

I have noticed that when I have inflammation in any part of the lower alimentary canal, it seems to move around from one part to another, or one thing triggers another. When I get blockage it's always at the old ileostomy site because that is where my gut is adhered to the body cavity.  When my digestion is bad and everything is moving through quickly, the intestines are more likely to get kinked at that fused spot because they're twitching and convulsing much more.  Food that slows down the digestion is good.  Soluble fibers do that and also soothe the tissue.  So in my experience these things are related: when any part of the system is down, every part of the system is more susceptible.

I will be curious to know what the surgeon says.

Sara
