I've just had hip replacement surgery and the surgeon prescribed Celebrex. It's my understanding that nsaids can cause pouchitis? Am I correct? If so, any alternative suggestions? Thanks

Yeah NSAIDS can cause pouchitis. Maybe an opioid might be safer? Depending on how your blood pressure is. What do you think about percocet?
Thanks for your reply. I've also been prescribed hydromorphone as needed as well as extra strength Tylenol.
I use Celebrex sparingly and it hasn’t caused me any issues, but I’m careful not to use it continuously for very long. NSAIDs can cause pouchitis. When I have pain to manage I start with maximum Tylenol and add an opiate only if the pain breaks through that. This only works if the opiate doesn’t include additional Tylenol (like Percocet, which would be dangerous to take with a full dose of Tylenol).
I can use Tylenol and then hydromorphone for pain. I've been prescribed a two course of the Celebrex (200 mg x2/day). I'm assuming it is for it anti-inflammatory action which I would miss out on. But I'd hate to get pouchitis (which I did after taken a few days of arthrotech(sp?))

I am glad you have a plan, I hope everything works out!
And that's crazy to hear about arthrotech, I am not surprised with it being a NSAID. I know some j-pouchers can take it and some cannot unfortunately. I wonder why it bothers some people but not everyone with a pouch.
