I haven't been on the site in a long time, because I've been doing so well. About two and a half years ago I gave up on my pouch and went to a perm bag and have been great ever since. But I have been fighting a candida problem for quite awhile. When I had my k-pouch I was on anti-biotics non stop for a year (common on this site) and ever since I've been fighting off yeast infections (I had never had one before this). I'm just realizing now how many of my other problems (UTI's, joint pain, yeast infections, etc.) can be caused by candida.

I'm ready to get serious about kicking this problem. Few weeks back I did a pretty strict candida cleanse, but then I started cheating here and there and the problem is back with a vengeance! Now I plan to follow the diet for awhile, if not forever.

Was wondering if I could get some help with the Do and Don't Foods. Here are some questions I have:

Mercury? Reading about the connections with candida and mercury but don't want to give up my tuna if not necessary. Don't want to over restrict when us gutless wonders already have to follow other restrictions with our diet.

Dairy: Yay or Nay?

Carbs: I don't know about you guys, but my gut does not work without carbs at every meal. Otherwise everything goes through too fast!! I also balance my "flow" with bananas and applesauce, but those are high sugar fruits. How do I keep this balance?!

Legumes? Tomatoes? Bell Peppers? Reading contradictions on these food.

I would appreciate some help.

Hi Rachel,
I would think that a high protien/low carb diet would be the way to go...with a strong probiotic to give you a helping hand...as for the need for carbs at every meal, could you aim for whole grain pasta, bran and gluten-free carbs as well as probiotic diary products if you must eat diary???
I know that I have had bouts with bacterial overgrowth due to antibiotics and that is my usual diet to get myself back into balance...
I did tons of steamed greens like artichokes, asparagus, leeks, green beens, salads and cucumbers...for some reason my doc kept me away from too many reds and orange veggies but I did drink a lot of homemade lemonaide (no sugar or honey)...
I have no other ideas but hopefully others will weigh in on this one...

Shen laughed to death when I mentioned Candida diet to him ;-)

I pretty much follow a Primal/Paleo diet right now and am just fine. I use tapioca flour a lot and do om on it.

If you really want dairy switch to goat. Our bodies aren't meant to really eat cow dairy.

There are a few sites with candida diet dos and dont's. I find that they didn't all work for me so I am sticking to what I am doing now.

I have been taking your advice and sticking to whole wheat or gluten free carbs. Trying to pay attention to glycemic index. Do you guys know if its ok to eat quinoa? I made some, it wasn't great so maybe a did it wrong, and I was feeling a bit heart burny after.

I really appreciate the feedback. We'll see if I can get to feeling even better.
