I suffer from cuffitis and my GI had me start on Canasa suppositories but I'm in so much pain I just stopped trying to use them. I have tried over the counter pain meds before bed time but nothing works. I have a 3 month supply and I've only used 3 or 4 of them. Any suggestions to help me get past the pain while using the Canasa would be great. Thanks

Big-V, how are you trying to insert them? What are you using for lubrication? Do you have any lidocaine gel?

Your cuffitis has to get treated somehow. One idea: You might need a short course of oral prednisone to calm things down enough to be able to treat the condition directly. You could also possibly start oral mesalamine and switch to Canasa when things are a bit better. Give your doctor a call. I hope you get some relief soon!

Big-V, I suffered with cuffitis and was in agony. I was straining to empty, a result, I think, of the inflammation caused by cuffitis that makes anal tissues swell. Are you also bleeding? For relief I would take very warm (hot) baths before bed which helped with inserting the Canasa. I also used a lubricant recommended by a pelvic floor therapist that didn’t burn as much as KY or other common lubricants. It takes time but you can get cuffitis under control.
