I dont officially have celiac but do not eat wheat or gluten. I stopped years before the surgery. When I eat wheat/gluten, I throw up, cant process it properly and generally feel awful. I sometimes try to reintroduce wheat/gluten but it doesn't work. Even with my gluten free breads - I have to pick breads that have no fibre or things get pretty bad. You can only try it for yourself for a few weeks and see if it helps you or not.

However, even with my gluten free diet I still have antibiotic dependant pouchitis and have had for 2 1/2 years.
I have been on gluten free and processed sugar free diet for ten months. My over all health has improved a lot. Also I have lost 18 kgs. However, my chronic pouchitis has not improved at all. In fact, it is getting worse, and my GI is planning to try Remicade now. I have been avaoiding to see my doctor for some time because the two previous GIs that I had seen before wanted to give Remicade a try, too. It seems to be inevitable now.
Back to gluten free diet, yes I am feeling much better in general, but no improvement in chronic pouchitis.
I suspect I have a problem with cow's milk. I am also lactose intolerant. I am also allergic to bread yeast.
We'll see what will happen..
Take care all,

No, I didn't mean that gluten intolerance pouchitis was more common than thought. I meant that gluten intolerance (celiac disease) is more common than was once thought. For instance, they used to think you had to experience it from early childhood, but it is common to develop in older people. They used to think it was "all or nothing," you either have it or not. But, there are varying degrees of celiac, so you can have a partial intolerance, just like you can with lactose.

Plus, you can have symptoms of celiac disease without having any pouchitis at all. The symptoms are similar, and many people assume they have pouchitis when they have increased frequency, cramping, increased gas, etc., but their pouch is fine when scoped.
