can prednisone get me into remission?

Probably. I've used it a few times. But, it always was to treat an arthritis flare, which sometimes coincides with a bout of pouchitis. The prednisone took care of both. Only took it for a couple of weeks at a time.

You really need to talk with your doctor about starting prednisone. It's really not a drug that should be self-prescribed in my opinion.

Yeah, it was 40mg, with a fast taper, after 4 days. Thiswas for an arthritis flare, though. But, Kathy is right, that it is appropriate to bring up the subject of prednisone with your doctor, but he's the one who should decide if it is appropriate to prescribe in your case, and what dosing schedule is. If he does not know how to prescribe prednisone, you've got the wrong doctor!

I hate prednisone. Honestly, though, I echo Jan and kathy: you don't want to self-medicate with it. The dosage is crucial and you have to taper down slowly. It's not something I'd even want to begin to figure out on my own. Definitely speak to you doctor.

A good GI will probably suggest ENtocort/Budesonide - a "designer steroid" with fewer side effects than prednisone.
