Takedown scheduled in a month and looking to buy a bidet.

I've noticed there are basically two types: hand-held and toilet-mounted.

Which is more functional/easy/convenient?

I'm leaning toward the hand-held, because you have more control over how and where it squirts... but maybe it would be easier to just turn the knob and have it hit me in the right spot without worrying about the hand-held apparatus?

I've NEVER used either one before, so I really don't know...

Any other advice on what to watch out for when bidet shopping?

I have a COCO toilet-mounted bidet (one of our sponsors). It is adjustable to fit your tush. Complete service. I would imagine the hand-held is much cheaper but if money isn't too much of a problem for you, then go for the big guns. Of course, you could try the hand-held and move up to a toilet-mount if you feel the hand-held isn't doing the complete job. The COCO bidet also has a seat warmer and air dryer. It has multiple settings so you should get exactly what you want.

I agree with Kathy, if you have money to spend, you might as well get a toilet-mounted bidet and maybe buy a handheld one that you can take with you when you go on trips.

I bought a handheld one, and it does the job just fine. I originally bought the Sanicare battery-operated portable bidet, but the problem with that is that the motor would burn out after 2-3 months. I then bought another of the same kind, and the same thing happened again. At that point, I did some research and purchased the Q-Lav portable bidet, which has no motor; you just squeeze. It's a great product, and I bought it for around $40 well over a year ago now. Here's the website in case you're interested:

Definitely go with a toilet-mounted. A good bidet is worth every penny I just wish I had had mine immediately after takedown as opposed to trying to tough it out. I have a Coway Ba-13 which was pricey but honestly, it was maybe the best money I have ever spent. I love it so much that I bought my sister one as a wedding gift (she has UC). Make sure you get one that has an endless supply of water. I think some have a 60 second cap which may sound like enough time (and often is) but there are some days where you just need a whole lot longer.
I went all out and got the Coco bidet a little over a month ago. I had to install a GFCI behind the toilet I had it installed on. I hooked it up myself in about 40 minutes. It has a heated seat, heated water, different water pressures, massage, pulse, energy saver, deoderizer and even a butt dryer. It was a big expense, but it's an investment. It will cut down on toilet paper usage and make your butt really clean.
Thanks for all the advice, guys. I usually try not to spend much money on stuff, but I actually can afford to get a nicer one if I need to - if you all say it really is worth the investment.

All the bells and whistles sound very appealing but there no outlet near my toilet. May have to see if I can work out a deal with my contractor friend... Oh, wait. I'm in a rental. Huh. Maybe the owner won't notice the added outlet behind the toilet, hehe. Besides, a lady's bathroom always needs more outlets anyway, right? LOL.
'We' (read DAMN BRIAN) had to install a GFCI outlet and fortunately DB is very handy. He said it was easier than he thought it would be. So do some sort of trade with that contrator and get your butt washer installed.

If you call COCO you'll probably be talking to one of the owners. They're very, very helpful.

I don't use the air dryer much anymore. I just blot dry. I must say though, that in the past I was in and out of the bathroom in the flash of an eye. Now that I have a bidet I spend much more time bonding. And, well, playing games on the iPad. When I first starting the 'bonding' process, DB thought I'd passed out in the bathroom or had become ill because I was in there much longer. Now he doesn't come looking until an hour or two has passed.

In Japan, almost all the toilets are equipped with bidets. My daughter and son-in-law thought it was very weird until they used them. Then they were definitely converts.

LOL, I have already gotten used to spending way too much time on the toilet from when I had UC... Sometimes spent more time in there than out. And now it takes a little while for me to empty my bag every time. Definitely appreciated the padded toilet seat in my last rental house during the worst of my UC days, even though before that time-period I always thought it was kind of a creepy granny-type item. Wink
I just ordered a Brondell FreshSpa dual-temperature bidet from HomeDepot.com. Only $60 or so, and free shipping. Haven't gotten it yet, but in reading the manual online, they have a suggestion for warming up the water supply prior to use. This unit has a nozzle wash function, which runs water over the outside of the nozzle. To warm it up, just do a nozzle wash for a minute or two with the water temp turned to hot.

I hope that works, because we have well water that runs about 55 degrees...
I bought a Blondell 500 a few months ago and I don't think I could have survived without it. Look on eBay for a deal, and you can get it for about half the list price. With a remote control that allows you to control the amount and direction of the spray, an automatic dryer and a three-level heated seat, it is terrific.
I just bought a COCO 9500R for $429 and pretty excited about it! :-)

Here is a little preview: COCO 9500R

However, I just checked out that I could get a Blondell with similar features on ebay for around $200, but COCOs on ebay don't sell for less than $450. Is there any reason I should stick with the COCO vs. Blondell? I've just figured that it's kind of the top-of-the-line name brand product...
Hm, looks like the COCO 9500R and the Brondell Swash 1000 are pretty comparable when I do a little research. I like that the Brondell model has a sturdy lid you can sit on. But the COCO remote looks so high-tech! Haha. Oh well, I already ordered the COCO at a fair price straight from the manufacturer, so I guess I'll just go with that. My aunt sent me $$ because she heard what I was going through and wanted to help, and it is enough to cover pretty much whatever bidet I want. Plus, you never quite know what you'll get off of ebay. o_O
