If you do a search here for "butt burn" you'l find dozens of threads about this, with hundreds of ideas expressed. In any case, I mostly just used plain zinc oxide ointment, applied after each poop, to protect my skin from the next one. I haven't needed it in years.
I found a new product on Amazon that has worked well for me. It called "Fire in The Hole"
It comes in a spray bottle. Go figure, how are you supposed to say it on your butt hole. That didn't work for me; so I mixed it with Calmoseptine and it works great. It works great on what I call "Battery Acid Butt Burn" and Butt Itch.
I swear by Calmoseptine. It's the only thing that works for me and it works instantly! It cools things done right away and protects from getting a rash. I was given it after surgery in 1999 and haven't found anything that works better. Good luck.
Hi,
I've posted information about the product which is the only one which really works - so much better than Calmoseptine - which is not designed for colectomy patients.
There's a thread on right now on the topic of leakage and the answer is right there - Convatec makes a paste - in the UK known as Orabase Protective Paste - which is the only one which will leave a protective paste round your burning butt all the others, and I've had a pouch for 35 years, so I should know, won't stand up to the job.
Good Luck!
I just got some and have not used it yet.
Will keep you updated.
I will only use it when it is extremely irritated.
Richard.
What are you eating? At your stage of recovery I was gently introducing my connected J-pouch to simple bland foods. After 6 weeks I began introducing one new food at a time. This regimen was not easy because I had chosen to keep my temporary ileostomy for an entire year and during that time I could eat and drink everything. However, my regimen paid off. Within 9 months to a year I could once again eat/drink everything. Best wishes!
