Hello all! I am right at 7 months post takedown and have a question regarding our beloved "butt burn". First of all, my issues with butt burn have gotten better over the last 7 months... Should I continue to expect improvement? I still use calmoseptine daily as a preventative, but there are still times where my rear gets very irritated (I suspect it's the cheap toilet paper at school - I'm a teacher and have lots of long days at school and the TP seems to aggravate my already sensitive behind!). Any thoughts on some portable options to help this? At home, I use a travel bidet to keep clean with minimal wiping, but this is not a great option while at work.

Also, the other day while cleaning out the last of my ostomy supplies, I came across the barrier wipes that I used around my stoma. The thought occurred to me that I might be able to use these barrier wipes to create a film around my anus to help keep the area clean. Has anyone tried this and had any luck? I'm just curious if it would work or if it ends up being a big mess?! Any success/failure stories with this would be great to hear!

Hope everyone is well!

It's great you are using Calmoseptine. It's worth its weight in gold!

Now as for your wiping. Stop that. On behalf of your backside, let me say, "Ouch!"

At medical pharmacies they sell squeeze spray bottles for peri-anal washing.

I take one with me whenever I leave the house. Just fill it with warm water and spray it on your bum after a BM, then pat dry. Don't wipe.

It works surprisingly well, though you might need to repeat the procedure. (I sometimes carry 2 bottles. Better too many than not enough. Wink )

P.S.: Plastic bottlers in your local grocery store usually are not soft enough to allow you to get a good jet of water going to blast residue off your backside.

.
Brooks, I hate to say this but I know what you mean. I am almost a 6 year frequent flyer with the J-Pouch mess. Call it what you want but BUTT burn is horrible and I live with it. I am a teacher also and it sucks. Here is what I found that helps me:
ILEX. Nothing else works or is better in my opinion and I have tried everything. I have even went to compounding pharmacies and made my own recipes. I have experimented with nearly everything but it all comes back to ILEX. Next, no many have heard of this skin protectant paste and you will have a rough time getting it. Used to, any pharmacy could order it, but for some reason they stopped. www.ilexpaste.com or call 800-443-6332. Email medconbiolab@yahoo.com for best results. You wont be disappointed and in my opinion its like gentle silicone.
