burping like a sailor....anyone else?

I've never noticed any difference when it comes to burping.

I have been a chronic non-burper my whole life (don't throw up other than post op either)...unless I have just been on antibiotics and then the yeast overload gets me I burp like a...Well a sailor too...you may want to check your input/output to see what it is that you are eating that is causing the gas (face it it has to come out!) and try to cut it out or reduce it (biggies are milk products, sugars, alcohol, beans and white flour products)..you can also try some OTC stuff like beano and gasX or digestive enzymes...they all help a lotin the reduction of gas...

I burp quite a bit, but I always have.

skn69 - chronic 'non-burper' - that is interesting! maybe you have lots of good bacteria inside?

i definitely burp more with the j-pouch than with the ostomy. i just hope it's nothing serious, like gastric ulcer or gallbladder....because excessive burping can't be good, can it? then again, they said in the hospital that burping is a good sign of digestion...

my doc shrugs it off. maybe I need to burp in his face so he can see how loud it is

FQ- You gave me a good laugh in this thread. I'm not laughing at you...I promise. It's good to know it's possible to have more burping after take-down. I think I would be alarmed, too. Let us know if you try any of SKN69'S ideas, and how they work or don't work for you.

SKN69 - You are very helpful in your suggestions. You've now mentioned a few things since I joined this website that I will definitely have on hand to try if certain issues pop-up after my take-down. Thank you!

fq -- I'd say your body is still adjusting and any way your body is releasing extra gas is a good thing. I'd give it a bit more time and if it continues, don't allow your doctor to dismiss it.
