hi all, I posted inder "ostomy and skin" but may get some help from here too. I spent a night tossing and turning from a burning sensation in my barbie butt. I had perm Ileo done last January and this is the first time this has happened. Since no stool is coming out, what could be making my butt (on the outside) feel like it's on fire? Any help is appreciated. I will put a call into my surgeon's office. It's Sunday :-( Thanks.

I would suspect it is those nerve endings finally repairing and causing phantom rectal sensations. Yes, it can take a year. But, a call to your surgeon for reassurance makes sense. Some people get relief by sitting on the toilet.

Wow... Really.... I hope I don't have that.
Were you sewn from the inside or out?
I was sewn from the inside.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know, Richard. I'd say from the inside - my butt crack looks just like anyone else's. Jan, this is becoming excruciating. I just drove home two hours from my sister's house. My surgeon is fitting me in tomorrow for an appointment between surgeries. I hope it's a simple fix. My ostomy output is fine, no fever, just feels like I have a bunsen burner aimed at my butt.
Glad your surgeon could fit you in. I almost hope there is something like an infection that is more straight forward to treat. Trapped nerves and the like can be frustrating.

I know, Jan, I've been reading up on it. Hoping for the best.
Jan, if you're there, please pick up! I just now noticed a hard, swollen area coming out of my Barbie butt. The pain level has gone up significantly. My husband is driving me to my appointment tomorrow because I can barely walk. Does this sound like a fissure to you? I know I'll get my answer tomorrow, just thought I'd ask your opinion now. I was so desperate I took two leftover Percocet from my surgery a year ago and now just feel sleepy, nauseous and in pain.
I've had my Barbie butt for eight weeks and during this time I have definitely had phantom sensations. It seemed very strange, but upon recalling that people who have arms or legs amputated have phantom reactions, I figured it was probably normal and a nerve reaction. Doesn't seem to bother me anymore. Jh
The hard, swollen area sounds like a possible abscess, which also fits with the worsening pain. I'm glad you're seeing your surgeon tomorrow. If my guess is correct then it is helpful that the location is obvious. Relieving the pressure of an abscess by draining it with a needle (or a small incision) can bring immediate relief. Please let us know how it goes.
I agree with Scott. Sounds like an abscess. Taking Percocet is fine. But if this pain really escalates, go to the ER to have lanced.

You are wonderful with your replies and I am so grateful for them. The plot thickens! I woke up to messy pj bottoms and immediate relief, so I suspect an abscess was right on the money. I will see surgeon but I feel so much better as my pj bottoms are cleaning up in the washing machine. Thank you all!
