Hello all,

I had surgery April 2013 and currently have a loop ileostomy. I am on the waiting list (hopefully Jan 2014) for bowel reconstruction surgery.

I have been feeling pretty good since the surgery. However, today I have been having some interesting symptoms and would like advice as to whether or not it could be a virus or something else (bowel issue).

I am getting horrific abdominal spasms, something I never experienced before. These spasms are quite sporadic and last around 10 seconds. I am also burping a lot, have mild nausea (but not to the point where I feel that I will vomit). My bag still fills up, so I doubt that it is a blockage. My stool is liquidy and not formed like usual (for a person with an ileostomy that is).

If I had a normal bowel, I would say that the feeling is an intense gas cramp.

I had an obstruction (with vomiting) following surgery, and at the time I did not have any severe pain (just burping and vomiting), so I am familiar with a blockage. This does not feel the same (especially since my bag is filling up)

This time there is severe pain (for a few seconds) and a lot of burping. Then it goes away. I am wondering if anyone thinks it could be some sort of food poisoning / virus or a bowel issue.

When I do not have the intense spasms that happen few times / hour (not yet certain if relation to food intake), I feel fine.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Solomin
