Hi everyone,
I had a blockage last night and have been miserable since. I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue, but sometimes after my blockages finally clear I bleed like crazy. Yes, I have fissures but the pain I get is in the area where my old ileostomy was and somewhat higher too. The problem this time, was I actually had blood clots coming out. I do not have a fever and I'm not in horrible pain right now, but I'm definitely uncomfortable and worried about the clots. THAT's never happen before. And like I said, when I bleed crazy like this, there is always pain in that area. I've had tests done and they never see anything. I don't want to go to the hospital for them to say there's nothing they can do... AGAIN. Anyone with similar issues?

Since this seems to be the result of a blockage and the clots are a new symptom, I would be concerned that there might have been some local trauma to the intestinal lining which may have happened as the blockage worked through; that may need to be investigated, especially if you are bleeding a lot. If you are reluctant to go to the hospital, can you call your GI or surgeon to report the symptoms? They may be better able to advise you what to do. However, if you are continuing to bleed and pass clots then you probably have no choice but to head to the ER.

With respect to the bleeding in general, I've had an issue with intermittent bleeding going on the past 8 months, though without the blockages. Like you, I've had tests and nobody seems to be able to find the cause. It's frustrating and worrisome at the same time.
Gee, it sounds like you have an ulcer at your stoma site, and when you get obstructed, it causes inflammation and bleeding. The fact you were passing clots is a significant symptom, particularly since your stoma site is pretty far upstream. So, that indicates a very brisk bleed. You should call your primary doctor and get some blood counts done now, just to be sure you are not seriously anemic. Then, you need to be seen by your GI and have this investigated. If it was a one time deal, I might let it go, but since this has been a repeating episode that is worsening, I would not let them dismiss this.

If your past exams were of the ER type, their goal is to be sure there is no imminent danger. Your regular GI can order the tests necessary to sort this out. I am sure you are worried about perforation, and you should be. It is not an emergency (yet), but should be looked into in the near future.

Good luck!
