Bleeding from Anal fistula?

I have an anal fistula described as a “mature wide tract”. It does leak fecal content 24/7. Today I had one episode of blood coming out of the fistula opening. When this has occurred before it is because there is skin irritation at the opening but none today. I have been told by my GI that the fistula tract is likely scarred and hence why it is now pretty impossible to heal. So why the blood?
