I know that there have been many questions about bidets on this site, but can't seem to find the answers to some of my questions. I'm redoing my bathroom and would like to get an idea of how people feel about their bidets. What kind you have, how easily it's cleaned (I use Canasa suppositories and it stains the seat terribly), if there's a particular type to use if one has cuffitis, how easy it is to install, does it fit on top of the toilet, how expensive it is, where did you buy it from, etc., etc., etc. Thanks in advance.

I have a Coway BA13 bidet and i love it. It is a little pricey at about 500.00 but to me it is worth it. We had a cheaper one and I actually gave it away. I can't imagine not having a bidet, it washes you and dries you so you really don't need to wipe maybe just pat dry if you don't have the time to sit for the full drying time. If you want I can take a pic of mine and send it to you. It is a pretty easy install. You will need power near the commode though.
I'm not sure how to address the canasa staining. Maybe the ones with warmed seats would be harder to clean the stains off, but that's just a guess. The high-end Toto Washlets have cleaning instructions that say not to use serious chemicals to clean the seat.

There are plenty of reasonably priced bidets out there. I suggest you look at some on the web and think about what features appeal to you, to narrow it down.
When I still had a colon and very active UC I was taking Sulfasalazine. My toilet seat was tinted orange as a result. Since having no colon and not on any "colorful" meds, my bidet toilet seat is white. I can't think of a way to protect it from discoloring if I had to use one of those color causing meds again. Guess I'd just live with it. The trade off would be worth it.
I use canasa and don't have any problems with it staining. I guess this would be a problem if the stool containing the canassa got on the seat. I don't see my canasa coming out by itself, sorry.

I have a Coco bidet and it has a hard plastic seat that can't be cleaned with harsh cleansers. It's not flimsy but it's not porcelain either. If you want one that is guaranteed no to stain try to find one that has a porcelain or ceramic seat. That might be impossible unless you buy a real bidet. If you have the room and are redoing your bathroom I think it would be great to have a real stool and all bidet instead of the seat kind that fits over a regular stool.

Good luck Smiler
The reason that it stains is because I have very watery movements and it always splashes on the seat. In the middle of the night, I clean it, but not as thoroughly as I normally would during the day, so by the time I get up in the morning, it's stained and cannot be completely removed with even bleach.

As far as putting in a real bidet, it would be impossible unless I had a very large bathroom, but I don't, but thanks for your input.
Hi Mema 1,

I don't have a bidet yet but I used them a lot in Japan when I visited - most toilets there have them, even public ones - if I suddenly come into some money I'd definitely get a Japanese toilet in my house!

Just wanted to sympathise with you on the stained toilet seat - me too. (I don't take Canasa.)

For what it's worth, I've had some plastic seats that didn't stain and some that did. Same with ceramic. Seems more to do with the finish than the material to me, unfortunately.

Good luck with the renovations,
Sarah
I understand what you are talking about now, dah! I get the spash effect underneath and am sure there's some canasa in it. I think that is what makes the bowl etc. more difficult to clean. I can only use mild detergent to clean the seat underneath and it cleans off with no staining. Mine is a COCO purchased this year. I'd ask the companies that question as it is a good one. Are the seats stain proof?
TE Marie, I left you a PM - never noticed that you had sent me one quite a while ago.

I can't believe that you clean the seat with mild detergent, although perhaps because my seat is so old, and has been bleached so many times, the finish has worn off. I did check out the bottom of the seat when I was in the store the other day and couldn't believe all of the crevices. The store only carries Toto to my knowledge.

Thanks to all who offered their input on a bidet.

On another subject, it's pretty bad when you have to conserve on medication because you know how expensive it is. I have been using the Canasa every other night and had a really bad episode yesterday. Cramps, low grade temp, aches....not good. Feeling a bit better today - almost stared Cipro because I felt so horrid and thought that it might be Pouchitis, but decided to wait. I'm hoping that the pains don't come back. Is it unusual to feel so horrible with Cuffitis? No bleeding, just miserable.
