Hi Guys,

Just wondering what % of you use a bidet on a regular basis? Since my surgery (10 weeks or so) my anal area has continually been sore and irritated. Usually throughout the course of the day the irritation increases to the point where I will notice small spots of blood on the toilet paper. I have been using barrier creams and this is still occuring. I was reluctant to commit to a bidet because it doesn't seem practical to assume one will always be available.

I've done some research and it seems a handheld unit will be the most practical to install and remove when required. I am still living in rentals so having a huge separate unit installed is not realistic. I have contacted a couple of australian companies and they have recommended:

http://handspray.com.au/royal-handheld-bidet.php (I would need the 'new' kit apparently.

They are both similar in price.

From the more experienced bidet users, do you think these look like good units?

Also I am considering this for taking places - http://hygienna.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage

Has anyone used anything like this?

I can't advise on the specific models but it isn't a waste just because you don't have it all the time. Using it some of the time (and giving your skin a break) is definitely better than nothing. I use mine when I'm at home, when I'm not at home I use plain TP. If I'm traveling and away from home for a few days straight the irritation might start to creep up (or I make more of an effort to use wet wipes instead of dry TP), but I love my bidet at home and it's a nice break for your skin in the evening/morning after a day of using public toilets.

In my opinion... there is something wrong if you're using barrier cream after every BM and still having skin bleeding on a daily basis.
I have a regular Coco bidet installed on my toilet so I have not used one like these. However, I can tell you they are the best thing that has happened to me since my surgery. When I go on vacation I end up bleeding and raw and stinging from using the toilet paper. So next year I am getting a cheap squeeze type to take with me. Always, I cannot wait to get back to my bidet. It quickly soothes things down. You will see and be glad you got one. Both of these look like they would probably work in your situation.
I don't see a problem with installing a bidet even in your rental,my husband installed mine you only need a handy power point,it can be removed when you move, I prefer what I have as you can adjust the water temperature warm is soothing and also air dry also if weather is cold you can have a warm seat, when I am not at home I buy sorbent wet wipes in the toilet paper section I Cary a purse size packet never ever use toilet paper to harsh. Have seen the type you are looking at when on holiday in Finland they were in all public toilets came in handy but cold water.
I've had my TOTO Washlet (bidet) since I had my takedown in 2002. I miss it when I'm away from home but not badly enough to carry a portable bidet. I did buy one at the same time I bought the regular model. It soon became a bother because it seems heavy to me to be carrying around and a bother to fill with warm water before using it in a public bathroom and cleaning it/drying it after. It is sitting in my drawer as we speak. If I really wanted to use a portable device badly enough I'd get ahold of a plastic bottle with a nozzle. Fill it with warm water and squeeze to give forth a stream of water which would clean my bottom enough so that I would not have to use T.P. except to pat my bottom dry. My bidet was the best investment I've ever made and since I'm the only one using it, it is still in perfect condition. Mine doesn't have the dryer but it does have the seat warmer.....nice feature, even in southern California! Instead of the dryer I just pat dry with a bit of toilet paper. No problem. The warm water spray is so soothing!
I too do not know what I'd do without my bidet. I have a Toto. I've had it for almost 10 years. It needed to be sent to the company for repairs once because the wand would not come out to spray. We have hard water and it had buildup in quite a few places. It came back cleaned of all that, working and is still going strong. After takedown, the bb was miserable. I was hopping in the shower whenever I could which was a pain in the butt. I know I would still have issues with it if I didn't have the bidet.
I have a low-end brand that uses the same design as the Toto washlet models. I received it as a wedding present (unwrapped and on the dance floor), so I don't know the cost. I'm guessing its cheap, but it works great. I think you'd be pretty happy with any model, it just depends on how much you want to spend. I've had the pleasure of trying one of the top of the line models, it multiple settings, hot water, and a blow dryer. The blow dryer was a bit overkill, but having warm water was great. If you have the money, pay for the warm water.
