This is the first summer that I have had my j-pouch and of course all of the beautiful local berries are at the markets.
When I had my ileostomy I could eat anything but I have discovered, to my dismay, that it is not the same with a j-pouch.
The whole bowl of cherries I ate for lunch yesterday tried to sneak out of my pouch without my permission. This is the first (and hopefully last) episode of incontinence I have had to deal with.
It is hard to practice moderation when the berries are so delicious but I have learned my lesson the hard way.

The good news is that it gets better for most people. There may be certain fruits or vegetables that will forever cause issues. But, it gets better because YOU get to choose whether a food is worth your while. Spinach still goes straight through me, even 19 years post op. I still eat it because I like it. But I don't experience incontinence.

I have no issue with any berry, at all. Strawberries are my best fruit.

Because I did a FODMAP elimination, I know some fruits that make me more uncomfortable. Apples, pears, those bother me, make me puffy. A lot of regular people will get the skitters eating a whole pile of cherries! Or any fruit, in excess, for that matter.

Jan, spinach is one of my best veggies! As is broccoli! Which everyone says is a gas producer; I'm very little bothered by it when cooked. Zucchini is great, too.

And I haven't had leakage in years and years and years. Surgery was 23 years ago for me.

See? We're all different!

You may find that you can tolerate a 1/4 cup of something that is offensive when eaten with abandon. Or you may find that the cherries are ok if paired with something thickening. Don't rule it out, just go slow. Things change over the years.
