i have a precut 7/8" appliance. Its very snug fit. if i measure out the next size up, which is a 1 inch there is a little play and i can see some skin .i put a barrier ring between skin and flange as well for extra safety. is it ok for the appliance to fit snuggly around my ileostomy or should there be some space? i just dont want a leak. sorry if i'm not explaining this correctly

I use a slightly larger fit. I use a 1" hole cutter to cut my wafers. I am lucky that I have a nicely rounded stoma. Before my revision it was oval shaped and I have never managed to master that art of cutting wafers manually. I use an eakin seal that fits snugly around my stoma. The seal covers all my skin and is flexible and moldable so a snug fit doesn't damage my stoma.
Regarding the new Mio system there have been a number of reports on the HealingWell ostomy site of failures. It was originally released for people with colostomy and may not work well for a ileo. They have sent me a card to request samples but seems like they need to work on the design.

I use a Coloplast slightly convex Sensura one piece with Eakins seal and Brava strips and it works quite well. 1" was too small and 1 1/8" which I use is too big but the Eakins seal fills the gap.
I give Coloplast a lot of credit for engineering the Mio. It certainly is a very valiant shot and they obviously worked hard on the new design!

I was very optimistic and gave them a very good test for several weeks. The filter worked great for one night .. but not for two. I also had premature leaking on the two piece and the one piece leaked underneath prematurely, as well. I am really running through the products and paces -- Hollister, Convatec and Coloplast. So far, the Convatec has the cheapest-feeling lasting bags, but the best longevity in the seal. I have an oblong loop stoma and I cut the hole a bit to fit more closely.
