I am booked in two weeks for a permanent ileostomy. It should be a relief, as the fistula, incontinence, cuffitis and pain are debilitating.

Still, I am sad about more surgery and about going back. At least it will be an end one which I gather is better.

He said we could look at repair when things settle, but now all I want to do is look after my amazing wee baby, now four months old!

Looking into what protection I can get to protect the stoma from the little guy!

Thank you to those who responded to my earlier post, it made taking this step alot easier.

Congrats on your decision! When I went back to the ileo, life started again. 12 years and going strong!

Your choice of course, but I've never done anything special to protect my stoma. I carried two babies with my ileo, and then toted them around and never had any issues with injury to my stoma. Stoma has been kicked, rolled on, sat on, patted, rubbed, you name it. Never any problems. Even when carrying toddlers and their legs and feet dangled right at stoma level, no problems.

I am totally a less is more girl, so I never wanted to get into needing extra stuff. So far, no need!
