Hi all,
I am a 3 year j-poucher who has had occasional bouts of pouchitis (every 3-4 months, resolved with Cipro 500mg for 14 days). Anyways, having issues with infertility. We are seeing an infertility specialist and have had tests done to make sure there is no apparent scar tissue, which there is not. The doctor is recommending aspirin 81mg (along with other drugs and procedures) to be taken for a bout 3-4 weeks to help with blood flow to the uterine lining. I have never taken NSAIDs with my j-pouch and mentioned this to the doctor. He said with such a low dose, it shouldn't cause any problems. This is part of the treatment and we wouldn't be considering it if we weren't really needing help. Is aspirin a definite NO, or is low dose ok? And should I get NON-enteric coated so it doesn't wait til intestines to break down (good for non j-pouchers, so it won't irritate stomach)! Anyone?

I think the risk is extremely minute unless you have had known UC flares with small doses over a short period of time. Enteric coating or not, it is absorbed long before the pouch. Enteric coating only protects the stomach lining. It affects your platelets the same, no matter how quickly it is absorbs.

Considering the potential benefit, I think it more than makes up for the minor risk.
