So I had the seton put in for a fistula on 3/27. Things were looking good...

But now, it's been 2 weeks after, and it's like my J pouch is just shutting down. I can't pass gas, I can barely move stool out. I've had to resort to enemas to clear out what is in there and get relief.

Usually, my husband has called me his "rumble" strip because I can get stuff out there very easily and, ahem, loudly. But that's not the case now.

It's not getting better. At first I thought it was that the stool was too thick, but it's happening even when it's not. I'm being careful about foods, in fact, I'm barely eating at the moment, because this is all so terrible... after 20 years, and now it wants to quit doing its job. It feels like my pouch is no longer being "responsive."

My doctor is out of town, but his nurse is bringing my issues to his associate's attention. This all happened after an exploratory under anesthesia (conscious sedation) and being dilated to find the fistula tract inside the anal canal. The surgeon said my pouch "looked good."

Help!! PLEASE. Anyone ever have this, or hear of this happening to someone this far along? I'm just hoping that it wakes up and gets going, but it's been 2 weeks now since the procedure, and I'm in agony. It's like the pouch itself is suffering an ileus, where the rest of me isn't, and I'm trapping gas, too.

Since this is a new issue since your EUA, I wonder if it is associated with either the anesthesia or the dilation procedure. If so, I would presume it is temporary and will resolve in a week or two. I would think it would be unlikely to suddenly develop a motility issue that is not directly due to the exam/drugs. But, never say never...

In the meantime, I think you are doing a good job of trying to stay ahead of this, even if you don't think you are.

Ugh. Still off today. But did fart again tonight. lol. I feel... Swollen, for lack of a better word. Wonder if I need steroids or anti-inflammatories? Generally stay away from NSAIDS. See my CRS Monday. God, I hope he has an idea about what's going on.

I am feeling hopeless at the moment, like it's never going to get better. Don't know what else I can do.

Anyone think all this seton surgery could've given me cuffitis? It's right there, that I feel swollen. I don't have bleeding, but I have urgency, yet difficulty passing gas and stool.

Dr Schraut by digital exam says I'm strictured above the seton, well up into my anastomosis. Scheduled for EUA and dilation tomorrow. Have never needed this to this extent in 22 years. Possibly related to the procedure and fistula issues. I'm scared I'm never going to go my normal again. Anyone been dilated before? What should I expect?
