Yeah I dehydrate very easily- I have 10 bowel movements a day. Do you dehydrate easily too?
When I was still working construction I would mix a bunch of salt in my 4L jug and I would have a 2L of frozen water with no salt. I don't tolerate the heat very well and I can get dehydrated relatively easily.
Now I don't put salt in my water often but I do just have salt some times usually followed up with water.
What ever works.
No I don't think I dehydrate easily. I usually walk two to three miles five days a week and always forget to take water. I drink like crazy when I get home though. I don't think I'm very heat tolerate though. I usually do everything outside early morning in the summer.
Have you tried adding the salt when eating (not into the meal)? I would not like to have my water taste salty all day long. I need an additional dose of salt from 1 to 3 mg salt per day in order to keep my Na blood level normal. If the Na level gets too low I get circulation problems, lose weight and that goes on like a vicious circle with having less appetite, more diarrhoea and overall mineral losses.
Usually I add 1 g of salt to my breakfast. I take a portion of 1/2 g after about half of the meal, pouring it into a mouthful of food I already chewed and trying to envelope it a bit to avoid the salty taste. Swallowing it with a bit of water there is little taste left of the salt. I have to divide it into 2 portions of 1/2 g with some time in between because taking it all at once is likely to make me feel nauseous.
In the past I also used empty gelatin capsules from the pharmacy (about 0.9 cm³ size is one g of salt), now I have one half of such a capsule glued to a toothpick as a level scoop.

Rather than put salt in water - which only gives you sodium- why not drink electrolyte beverages that have both sodium and potassium? You don't want your potassium getting low. After colectomy my potassium got alarmingly low and I was compelled to drink liquid potassium. Don't ignore it. If you are losing electrolytes through watery BMs the potassium needs to be replaced. Low potassium could mean cardiac issues and cardiac arrest.
Hi
Which electrolyte beverages do you drink? I was told the store brand types such as Gatorade and Powerade have too much sugar.
That's not really true, there are non sugared varieties and Nuun also has no sugar. This has been discussed in other threads. Non sugared electrolyte drinks are what all of you should be drinking especially when it's hot like it is now.

That is definitely a good idea!!! I mainly get my potassium through potato chips and potassium snacks Lol But yeah I think I will give electrolyte drinks a shot, especially since I have over 10 BMS per day.

@CTBarrister Is right Maddie. There are no sugar gatorade and other no sugar electrolyte drinks, also low sugar electrolyte drinks like pedialyte.

I add salt to meals and water, never bothers me, it actually makes me feel better. When I do not, I get headaches.
I usually put a pinch of salt in my water because my dietitian told me it helps me absorb water better. Lately though I have just been drinking water mixed with liquid IV powder.

WOW! I never heard of Liquid IV powder! Sounds pretty cool though!!! Have you tried pedialyte???
I have not tried Pedialyte but looking it up it looks like another good option for adding electrolytes and flavor

Yeah, I heard great things about it. Children drink it when they have a lot of diarrhea and vomit. We have diarrhea all of the time so I think that would be perfect for us lol. And they have sugar free gatorade which I hear is great.
