I acutally posted this in a different place. So please forgive this newbies inexperience on this site. My husband is having step 2 of 3 steps next week. He's 60. He's in great shape, no meds etc. I was wondering if there's anybody about this age in this group that has successful j pouch surgery. I am really hoping to get some positive responses to calm my nerves.

I am reading as many post as possible. I hope that in the future that he can contribute to people that are about to face this surgery. Thanks everybody!

You can PM Gloria. She had surgery 12 years ago at age 69. She's done very well with her jpouch.

I'm 67 and had surgery 12 years ago. I have very few problems. Pouchitis 2 times in that time. I eat whatever I want and do everything I want. No holding back. I do take a probiotic every day.

Sue , January 5th 2013 will be 13 yr's with the take down,the first surgery was in late nov.1969.
I am doing fantastic have had no issues and I sometimes even forget I have the jpouch it feels so natural. I am in good health so that might be a reason I haven't had any pouch issues, also good gene's. I am very active, dance alot but we are all diferrent. I do think Dr Beart did a perfect job on me. So it really depends on the person.
I forgot to add that I am now 82 and had first surgery at 69.

I'm 72 and had step one of two when I was 61 with step two at age 62. All went well and continues to do so. I've met people older than I am who are living very successfully with their J-pouch. I, too, am from California.

Thanks for the input. I feel alot better. Dr Yee at california med center is the surgeon.
