I come to this site from time to time and try to find information that will help me. Thus far I have not found anything that is helping my situation.
I had my total colectomy 4 years ago. Since that time I spend 15-20 times a day (on a good day) in the bathroom. On a bad day I can reach 30 times. I hardly sleep since I am sometimes up every hour running to the bathroom. I have times when I go, crawl back into bed and jump right back up again.
I have tried fiber, husk, Imodium, Lomotil, mixing with Pepto Bismal (one doctor's suggestion), but none of them seem to help.
I have tried (Dr suggestion) red licorice, rice, the Brat diet (except that I am allergic to bananas and have to skip those), marshmellows and coconut. None of that worked. I met someone who had the same surgery and followed their menu and ended up with a bowel obstruction.
I am not interested in having an ostomy. Why? I had a lot of issues with the bag, my skin tore at the bag site and the bag (and power) caused a reaction--thus not allowing the bag to stick properly.
If anyone has diet, med or any suggestions--I am open to trying something else.
