Ally, I have really bad anxiety and depression. I'm take cymbalta, Wellbutrin, bus bar and colonzapam.  Quite a cocktail.  But it most of the time keeps me level. right now, I've broken out in a stress induced exema on my hands. Meriting me crazy and two weeks ago I had hives! but if I was not on this stuff, I wouldn't be able to drive, function, get dressed or even have a life. try doing some yoga, it really does help. Also harp music has been proven to have therapeutic results.

hope things go well.

I was on Wellbrutin before my surgeries, for fibromyagia.  I'd tried Cymbalta but it caused me to think about dying all the time, not suicide, but dying from car accidents while driving or falling down stairs etc. On the other hand it's helped one of my friends.  After the j-pouch surgeries I went on a 2nd antidepressant as was diagnosed with Major Depressive order.  My GI at Mayo's said that they can help with our pouch problems as well.  I switched last fall to Amitriptyline to control my migraine headaches and help my depression.  This one is supposed to help pouch function too. I discovered then that our colon's were an important part in making our natural serotonin. I've taken xanex for 10 years for anxiety and sometimes panic attacks but not usually daily. There are times when I'm too anxious and take it daily but never more than 2 times.

The antidepressants come in various levels of strength and you don't become addicted like people do on pain killers.  You need to wean off of them when you no longer need them is all.  You might just need a short time on another antidepressant for a short course, until your health improves. It probability be a situation driven depression.

You wean of of antidepressants like other drugs, for example prednisone, when you no longer need it.  That doesn't mean your addicted but may be dependent.  You really should talk to your PCP doctor about it as depression on top of  your current medical problems isn't good.  It could be that you might need an increase in your current one.

I have anxiety after bouts in the bathroom when painful or feeling blocked...you may think this is out there but I don't like to take meds - one reason for colon removal vs Humira for me- but I use essential oils. I diffuse lavender for calming down the end of the day and for sleep,  one called peace and calming and apply one directly on my skin called stress away. helps me stay calm most of the time.
