I'm on xifaxan for it. I'm allergic to many many antibiotics and have a history of cdiff. So it is scary to be on it. Dr. Shen said I may have to be on it for life as I have had so many surgeries and hence adhesions, etc. But he wants me to try to pulse dose it. Meaning take it for two weeks and then stop for two weeks and resume, etc. Haven't been able to do that yet as the horrid symptoms return within 2 days of stopping xifaxan. I also changed my diet to no sugar and lower carbs, but didn't see much difference.
However, just recently the xifaxan stopped working. I am extremely underweight from this sibo thing. Dr. Shen's new PA recommended I try a low FODMAP diet. I have now been on that for almost two weeks and it has made a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference. Ready to have another go at stopping the xifaxan any day now! I also have an upcoming appt with a CC dieticien to better understand the low FODMAP with my perm. ileosotomy and figure out how to manage things via diet and gain weight and trying to get off and stay off antibiotics.
