Hi everyone!!
Hope you all had a great holiday season! I just want to say how much I appreciate all of your comments and candid advice! It has been your words of support and bravery that have helped me along on those baaad days!! Smiler
I have had my pouch about 6 months and have had bouts of pouchitis on and off since week one. I have been on flagyl and cipro and zyvox for a mrsa infection at my old stoma site. I do well when on the antibiotics, but once i stop, i become symptomatic again. Frowner ugh! I try to follow the FODMAP diet (sort of) and I am taking Ultimate Flora probiotics.
Question 1. What types of antibiotics should I take and how should should they be rotated?
Question 2. I can't afford VSL#3, is there another probiotic that has similar benefits? My surgeons just suggested any over the counter type.
Question 3. Is there hope that with time, the esisodes of pouchitis will subside?
Thanks for your input!! I think you all are awesome!!! : )
lauraw, my husband has had pouchitis and cuffitis since his take down 14months ago. He rotates cipro, flagyl rafaxamin. He did take VSL#3- for him no difference if he takes OTC probiotic. For some people it works great. It is all trial and error to see what works for you. Just make sure you get the highest count and refrigerate it. Best wishes!
