I absolutely love my kpouch but am facing another complete slippage of my valve, so another repair. My kpouch was formed 12/2015; first repair 7/2016; second repair TBD.
I followed Dr. Dietz from CC to University Hospitals. They have a wonderful stoma team and Dr. Dietz and Dr. Charles are the Kpouch surgeons. No regrets leaving CC for UH, so far so good.
When he scoped me today he couldn't get a Foley catheter in due to the slippage. So I was admitted & he will try and insert it under anesthesia tomorrow. Then I will let the valve heal & schedule a full revision, TBD. Otherwise, he will attempt a full repair while I am in the OR. It is up in the air until he explores a bit.
I am so glad I had my kpouch formation but if this repair doesn't 'hold', I will probably go back to an end-oleo. The surgeries have taken a toll on as I have malabsorption issues, severe anemia, pouchitis, transfusions- I haven't been able to fully enjoy my kpouch without an issue. Just the way the chips have fallen with my kpouch. Dr. Dietz said has no problem doing repair after repair, but I guess I am tired- as we all are- of pain, hospitals & surgery.
So here is to hoping third time is a charm...I am in good hands with Dr. Dietz. It's not the end of the world and so many pouchers have far worse situations, far worse. I fully support anyone contemplating a kpouch or BCIR as it still is a wonderful option. But my advice- make sure you have an experienced, knowledgeable surgeon and know repairs can be invasive that affect your entire body, not just your gut.
