Don't know whether to cheer or cry.   After many years of not being able to get funding for Humira for my UC and associated Sacro-iliac/hip pain my last MRI has finally confirmed I have Ankylosing Spondylitis in my SI, lower and thorasic spine.  For years before my J-pouch surgery, my Gastro and Rheumatologist both thought I had AS as well as UC but it could never be proved.   I can now get funding for Humira.   Can't help thinking "if only" I had been given Humira 6 years ago, I could have avoided all the surgeries and on-going complications I have had.  Got to keep looking forward though.....anyone else out there with AS.   Also, can you take Cipro with Humira?

Yes, no contraindications for Humira and Cipro.

Boy, do I hate insurance companies (with a passion)! I have a lowly HMO (nonprofit), and I have never had any trouble getting approval for biologics. I was first put on them after having consistent symptoms for about six months. None of my imaging was positive. None of my labs were positive. My rheumatologist diagnosed based on history, physical exam, and symptoms. My HMO does not require preapproval, only a plan doctor's orders.

The current (and for several years) opinion has been that biologics help slow progression of spondyloarthropathy, especially when begun before overt radiological "proof" is evident. You cannot reverse it. So sad that bean counters interfere with best medical practice. OK, off soap box, but this riles me up!
