Hello,

I am hoping someone here can assist me in understanding the problem that I appear to be facing.

I just had a colonoscopy and it appears that I have two anal fistulas.

I have read information on the internet and it is still unclear to me. I have the following questions:

1. My colonoscopy shows two holes in the anus. Does one need to pelvic MRI to confirm fistula?

2. How serious is it to have anal fistula(s)? Does this need to be looked at sooner than later?

3. From what I gather, it seems that the only way to fix this problem is surgery. If surgery is required, it seems that the surgery can take place as out patient. Is this correct?

The symptoms that I currently have are:

- Anal irritation (majority of time), blood on toilet paper

- Constant feeling to have to go to toilet

Can anyone help me better understand this issue?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I tried reaching out to my surgeon, but there are no appointments available for at least 3 months. Unfortunately, this is life under medicare in Quebec.

Thanks!

Solomin

My experience, I developed an abscess 3 months after my surgery, bad discomfort on sitting, round swollen on perineal area, I have a temp ileo but I had an urgency to go to the bathroom, even today when it’s swollen I have urgencies, unfortunately it turned too into a fistula, my surgeon said in most of cases it’s a fistula, be patient try not to put your mind into it remember that your mind can do miracles, internet is the best way to get bad stuff in your mind, wait for your doc he will take care of it ok, good luck with everything and keep us posted
