I went to UAB on Thursday for a flex sig, double balloon EGD, EUS, & ERCP to treat an ampulary adenoma. However, when they did the EUS they discovered that the adenoma was much more diffuse than they thought, so they did not remove it. Afterwards, they told me that they need to discuss my options with my GI surgeon (who did all my other surgeries). I was told that the adenoma would either be removed with the ampula and part of the duodenum (resection) in one open operation, or in several endoscopic procedures. They want to weigh the benefits & risks of each, but, obviously I'd prefer the latter. Any advice?
