Hi everyone,
I get pouchitis too often so I'm trying to figure out the best but inexpensive treatment for it. I usually get really bad gas with cramps and have to go to the washroom to get rid of it or I have an accident. At my age that's not too much fun. originally I was taking cipro but my doctor won't prescribe it anymore because she says it will stop working since I need it so often and told me to try VSL 3. Tha worked really well, but unfortunately, it also costs me $100 a month and I can't afford that. So I tried Align and the first month it seemed to work well and now? Not soo much. The next thing I'm going to try is Ayurveda: it's supposed to help with gas and diarhea. I don't knkow how much it will cost just yet. Just curious if anyone has tried the Ayurveda or has any other suggestions?
thx!

Haven't tried it or heard of it as a probiotic. I thought it was just a type of Indian alternative medicine.

But, other probiotics other folks have tried here with varying success are Culturelle (lactobacillus GG), Florastor (saccharomyces boulardii), Flora-Q (4 different probiotic strains), and PB-8 (lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium).

Currently I am taking Nexabiotics (formerly called Benebiotics- I have no idea why they changed names. It has 20 strains of probiotics, including S. boulardii.

I have tried ayurveda and I think the key is to find a really good practitioner who will follow up and keep track of all the herbs you're taking and the reactions you're having to them. Also, note that it has a detox effect that a lot of people have trouble tolerating (since we already use the bathroom so much). I do find that ayurveda helps but it takes a long time to work so be patient with it.
