I have been told there are no private rooms but you can still have a family member stay 24/7. Can anyone confirm this?

What sleeping arrangements are available? Cot? Roll-away? Is there room for a single air mattress on the floor? I am kind of stressing about this because we have always had a private room. Is there a frig in the room? Can the family member shower there?

Any other tips are very welcome!!

kelsie.. don't stress. I'm sure your family member will be ok. You will be on H50or H51. Last I was there, last spring (for a month!!!).. there were no private rooms. Also the rooms are small. Absolsutely no room for an air mattress at all

What you need to be sure to do.. is get your family member to try to "score" one of the recliners. They recline all the way to flat so they are nice for your family member to sleep on. There seem to be only a few of them on the ward. So cozy up with one of the nurses and get one of those in your room. And then lock it done... so no one else "borrows" it! The nurses will give your family member any blankets, pillows, etc.. they need. Also those are easy to get just off the the carts.

There are no fridges in the room. However, there is a little are at one end with a microwave and small fridge. My husband put stuff in that fridge sometimes. And he regularly used the microwave.

Lastly, I have found it much more comfortable for us in the shared rooms if we get the bed by the window. Then you don't have to deal with the extra traffic going past you to see your roomate. Also, you have control over the window blinds. So again.. have your family member try to work with the nurses in advance somehow.. to see if they can make arrangements for that. Usually those wards are full to capacity, so this may be a bit difficult. But somehow, my husband has always managed to get me the window bed.

The entire staff and nurses are very very kind to the family members. So despite it not being a private room, things will be ok.
best of luck.
funny you mention that poucho. I don't remember anything about the first four days after my last surgery at all. Nothing at all. I was just looking through my records and I had some kind of heart condition happening even along with many other complications and they did some other tests. I don't recall anything about it. Yea for all the drugs they give us!!!

And I want to know more about that private room thing. I had surgery there in 2010 and the room situation was same as I described for earlier in this year.
