So I guess it's about time I ask for advice. I'm 2 1/2 years post op and I feel like I have encountered pretty much everything you could at this point 4 stricture dilations, 4 partial blockages, an abcess that created 3 fistulas. I've had an infection for a while that my surgeon had been draining while taking care of the abcess and fistuals. I still have an abcess and one more fistula that have been giving me a problem. My last procedure was for him to go in and place a pemrose drain in and I also have a stitch running from the abcess down to the bottom of the fistual to keep it open and draining. For 2 1/2 years now I've been on pain meds for the chronic pain I've had from post op pains to all the different procedures I've got done. I've come to the point where it started to get out of hand using the medication because my tolerance is so high at this point I would always have to take more than the recommended dose and my body is obviously dependent at this point. I'm ready to be done with this and have chose to detox off of the meds and do a rehabilitation sometime in the near future. Im scared because once I detox there is no turning back and if the pain is still that bad quality of life will be horrible but come to think about it my quality of life since the abcess and fistulas have come about has been terrible for the last 6-8 months. My surgeon gave me the option of going back to the illeostomy bag for a while to let everything rest and settle down. I'm wondering is this a good option? Do you think this will help eliminate the pain I've had? How extensive are the surgeries between going back to the illeostomy and then back to the pouch? Looking for some guidance here thanks.
