Abx causing stomach/pouch pain--probably a Jan question

There aren't words! You know, I don't usually go there, but I hope that 'doctor' gets to experience exactly what Tom has, and is continuing, to go there. She deserves the knowledge!

Very unlikely that pouchitis would be caused by vanco, especially IV. My guess the symptoms are due to too high a blood level, and should resove over the next few days with the right dose. What a way to spend Christmas!

The probiotics are a good idea, but back off if they increase the abdominal symptoms.

Jan, you are exactly right--the levels have consistently been high. He stopped the infusions altogether for 24 hrs, then resumed a dose that has been lowered for the second time, starting yesterday. Stomach/pouch pain decreased, then increased when infusions resumed. Guess we'll wait and see.

Stopped the infusions altogether Jan 11 (5 weeks), because they were making him feel very bad, and infection seemed to be gone. Four days later, it appears to be coming back. Infectious disease doc ordering IV infusions to resume with Daptomycin ASAP. Alhough side effects may be similar, hoping we can hold off infection long enough for the bone to heal before they have to remove the plate. Going for x-ray today to check the status of that. Naturally the foot surgeon is out of the country for several weeks. Murphy's Law still fully in effect.

Ugh! What a pain! Not good when the treatment is worse than the disease!!
