I too plan to have a permanent ileo done in October. Have had pouchitis and bad leaking problems for a couple of years. I am also on my 4th antibiotic this go round. Enough is enough.

I suffered from pouchitis also Holly. It made me miserable, and I couldn't take all the meds anymore. This ileostomy has been a lifesaver for me.

May I ask you a question or two? The doctor's nurse told me I would still pass some mucous even with the pouch removal. Has this been true for you?
How long did you stay in the hospital and how long until full recovery? thanks

I do have mucous discharge still and it's a bit complicated but nowhere as bad as when I had pouchitis. I have to have dilations because of a stricture every 8 weeks. The stricture prevents the moucous from exiting and becomes painful, however this is MY case and everyone is different.
I was in the hospital for about 1 - 2 days before discharge.

Thanks. I never knew you might have a mucous discharge until I talked to the nurse. You had a very short hospital stay. I was told by my surgeon that it might be 7 days. Hopefully I will do as well as you. thanks again

Thank you. I am feeling better and as long as I stay on my Augmenten twice a day I will continue to be okay I hope. It is not good to be on antibiotics all the time, but right now I have no choice. Wanting the surgery and nervous about it at the same time. I appreciate you asking.

Do you mind my asking how your surgery went and how long it took you to recover?

I'm happy to share my experience. I recently celebrated my one-year anniversary of having my j-pouch removed and a perm ileo constructed. Couldn't be happier with my decision! Wish I had done it years earlier.

Glad to hear you are doing well. I hope that in a year's time I can be saying the same thing. I know the surgery is difficult and long, but I am in much better shape for a long surgery than I was with the original j-pouch. I was at death's door and on high doses of cortisone. The cortisone kept me from healing properly and I ended up with a severe infection. Hopefully this recovery time will be better. thanks
