Hi all.

Just had my last surgery last week and am now using my pouch. Ive been on solid food for about 4 days and every time I go to the toilet I get a really painful stinging sensation (like Im pooping out little razor blades). Is this what 'butt burning' is? Forgive my ignorance, Im new to the site.
I use sudocreme straight after I finish but doesn't stop the stinging next time I have to go. Is it to do with the acidity of the stool, coming straight from the small intestine, or because the anal area hasn't had any stool on it for over a year? Does anyone have any other advice?

Throughout the day, when I get little urges to go to the toilet, I just hold it back or else Im going so often just to get a small amount out. It is quite painful when I do get these urges (sought of feels like the pouch is stretching)but goes away after about 10-15 seconds. Just curious if this is normal as well or if I should be worried?

If you've read through this whole thing thankyou as any advice would be appreciated. Nick

The razor blade burning sounds like an anal fissure. Soaking in a sitz bath could help and using a topical numbing cream like lanocaine.

After my takedown I would try to hold it for a bit too. This all sounds normal. As the weeks go by you will see improvement. Your body is healing and adjusting to your new plumbing. It takes time. Smiler

I am almost 4 months post-takedown and even I get this razor blade coming out sensation at times. Especially, if I have had spicy and hot food. I just assumed this was butt burn and would eventually subside. But, previously I had been diagnosed with a fissure and I really hope that this is not a result of the fissure. I don't want that darn thing coming back!!
I still have those urges to go too every few minutes if I haven't emptied the pouch for a while. And, at times each of those spasms are accompanied with a burning/razor blade coming out sensation. Do other people experience this??

I've never particularly prescribed to the "hold it and stretch the pouch" plan as it would lead to similar pains and/or butt burn once emptying took place. In the same way, I prefer "looser" output so that straining does become tempting and possibly creating more of the same issues. And I don't count bathroom visits. I go when I go. I don't care how many times I go in a day.

As far as helping once the pain is there:

- hot water (sitz bath, shower sprayer, bath, etc.)

- Calmoseptine (after hot water)

- for fissures, I remember using Nupercainal or Hurricaine Gel (from a stand alone pharmacy)

While I still have said issues when eating too much fiber or spicy food, the occurrences greatly decreased once I started taking a probiotic.
