even post mucosectomy 22 years after jpouch installment im  going to the bathroom during eating and after eating.  As soon as i put something in my mouth what i ate prior ir prolly whats wanting to come out.  its all about the transit time.

also this is life with a jpouch. for some of us like myself i take it as it comes having to go poop right after and during eating anything over wearing a bag

others will argue this.

im not writing to be controversial.  just saying this is life with a jpouch, you cant sit through a meal and finish it before having to poop again and you will be going to poop right after your done that meal/food choice.

i go more frequency wise after my revision of transanal mucosectomy done on 4/17/24. i have fap not uc so i had polyps in the rectal cuff and my cuff was a long one 5cm. the whole cuff was removed, im now  hand sewn to the dentate line whereby 22 years ago the surgeon gave me a double stapled jpouch

sorry but this is reality. you can try loperimide to slow things down but your still probably gonna have to poop while eating during at a restaurant.

best to you

Plenty of folks report something like this, though it has nothing to do with transit time. It’s likely a remnant of the gastrocolic reflex, which can have a similar effect in folks with a colon. In any case, it’s probably worth experimenting with Lomotil or Imodium before going out to see if that helps you have a better experience.

Hello,

Frequently, but not all the time, I need to go in a restaurant during or near the end of the meal.

I take loperamide 3x/day, and especially before dinner, but Mr. Pouch does what Mr. Pouch wants to do, so I just roll with it, when it happens.

Fortunately, I have decent pelvic floor control, so I am rarely if ever prone to any accident.

yes, it’s annoying, but it is our life now, so we suck it up and march onward!

One of the big advantages of the intermittent use of bowel slowers is the ability to better manage the timing of trips to the toilet. Not all of us are able to give up all-day use, but those of us who can gain a very useful tool.

Just a side note

Same thing happens to me. As soon as I'm done eating something get pushed out.

I have an end ileo.

This is just for comparisons to the pouch.

Seeing how we both don't have a colon.  I personally think room needs to be made for the meal just eaten once it progresses to the small intestine.

Ah. Heck I don't know that for sure. But it happens. Lol.

I also have to use the restroom every time I eat….I don’t get embarrassed at all… it’s just life for me.  My family and friends have all learned that this is how my system works and that’s it.  Pouch Life is LIFE….this pouch has extended my life for over 4 years and counting……. So enjoy the moments you get with your loved ones….. even if you need to pause to use the restroom!!!!!!…

Yeah this definitely happens to me too. Same thing with water too. If I drink a lot of water, I have to go to the bathroom right away. I understand that you feel embarassed but this is our new normal, I am just grateful that I am not bleeding and that I can poop.

How many bowel movements a day were you having before taking injections???

I have been jpouching since 2009.  I just recently stopped taking immodium because of a hernia I am waiting to have operated on.  I have not noticed any difference really.  Maybe I never needed it?  But I will tell you after almost every meal I am on the toilet.  It beats the hell out of  a bag IMHO.

Wow you just recently did not need it anymore after being on it since 2009?! Your lucky, I stopped needing it a few months after connection surgery.

Definitely beats a bag imo too! I love how my pouch is like a free alarm clock

Hello

i have a question! Does this happen to anyone else? If I’m eating out at a restaurant as soon as I’m done I have to go empty my jpouch which is not only annoying but embarrassing as I can’t just sit there and enjoy quality time after eating! Any suggestions? I’m afraid to go out!

Hi , I  have had my j pouch since 1996.  After 15 years of going 12 times a day and  having to go right after a meal and always knowing where the nearest and nicest private bathroom was . I bought a small Enema bottle, get them on Amazon . I clean myself out in the morning after I have my coffee . I’ll rinse out my pouch 3 maybe 5 times to get all the  stuff out of it and I do this before I go to bed .
if I have plans to go out to dinner I won’t eat lunch and just before I leave the house I will clean my pouch out. It helps a lot.

If I drink 8 cups of water before a meal, I get cleaned out and my poop is clear! You have to put salt in the water or you will lose too much. Do you think you want to try that instead of buying enemas???

Does the salt keep your body from absorbing it?  My question is what can make my body absorb MORE of the water?  Surely there is something that can turn the water from poop to pee!

Excellent question!!! Salt helps you retain water instead of it running through you but you have to measure the ratio correctly. My recommendation is 1tsp for 64 oz.

Drink water before, during, and after every meal.

Drink water after ever bowel movement. At least one cup.

On the subject of enemas: I have discovered that I can use my bidet wand on my home toilet for this purpose, just hold it tight to the butthole and turn the water on. Much handier than messing with the enema bottles. I still take a bottle when I travel.

Is it hard keeping up with the bottle???
