I’m 2 months and change out from mucosectomy.

my urologist would like to perform a follow up cystoscopy on me due to having had a long duration of post op urinary retention that recently got better after several trial voids and many I swelling  foleys over the past 8 weeks

This said I use a long incontinence like pad in my briefs daily since post op

obviously I’ll have to be without underwear in a gown while my urologist is scoping me

I’m concerned about leakage and staining while asleep and I’d think they, the nurses will stick a pad under me/hospital chuck/liner

also is it normal to be two months post mucosectomy and leak effluent down the leg both legs when not making it to the bathroom in time?

my oncologist /surgeon knows I bleed on the parked because I’m healing at 2 months out

aldo I change pads twice daily and am prone to uti infections as a result poop staining is on the pad and it’s gets to my urethra.

Also of note I’m ftm. Meaning I transitioned my gender from female to male some 17 years ago and have not been operated below the belt.

so both orifaces are close together which is a recipe for uti in my case plus the use of a pad to save my underwear

Any polite feedback welcomed and appreciated

the cystoscopy is July 9 Under anesthesia

thx

It’s definitely possible to have leakage while under general anesthesia. I experienced that during a gastroscopy. Your pre-procedure instructions may already cover some of this, but if they don’t you could avoid eating anything after midnight before the procedure, and (optionally) do a warm tap water enema before heading to the facility. Are you worried about this specific leakage (during the procedure) causing a UTI?

Hey scott

yes worried about leakage causing uti and just being messy during the scope

i will receive instructions at my pre admission testing

i imagine this wI’ll be atleast a 30 minute exam under aesthesia therefore a rigid diagnostic cystoscopy

prob no food after midnight but it makes sense to not eat after a certain time the night before and as for enema post mucosectomy with my rectum healing I’m not comfortable giving myself an enema/inserting it back there

im bleeding on my pad daily from healing so enema to empty out is a no no for me

thx

Oh, heck, Len, of course an enema is a bad idea in your current situation. In any case, I don't think a UTI is a big risk in this situation - the urethra will be rather fully occupied, and any leakage will tend to follow gravity away from the urinary tract. Do let the urologist know about your concern, so if any precautions seem necessary they can be taken. Good luck!

Thank you scott

the urologist knows because I was referred to him for retention concerns and and opinion by my surgical oncologist who did the Tami's mucosectomy on me but I’ll inform him I wear a pad everyday

m tell the nurses too so they can extra prepare me

i think I’ll have a rigid cystoscopy so this scope is diagnostic as that’s what’s written in portal notes so will be atleast 20 30 minutes

thanks for writing me/ responding
