I was offered a medication for another condition, and, after checking the side effects, noticed it could cause ulceration.
I then read further, and it can cause mouth, peri-anal, vulval and stomal ulcers. Yikes!
It is an uncommon side effect, but with a j-pouch and an auto-immune condition that affects my nether regions, I decided it is not worth the risk for me. Especially as I would have to take it every day for the rest of my life, and the ulceration can appear at any time.
There are other similar medications I can try, but the cardiologist still got a bit shirty with me, even though I explained it in a deferential manner. Geez. Won’t be seeing him again.
(It’s called nicorandil, by the way. Not used in the US.)
