This morningI had a very informative tele-med appointment with Dr. Remzi.  My pouch will be 30 years old on July 11th and I think it's time for an overhaul!  Long story short, I have mechanical issues that have resulted in 2 fistula, a problem with the afferent limb, and a couple of other minor things.  Dr. Remzi strongly suggested that I commit to a 3-step pouch redo.  I asked him about just excising the pouch and living with an ileostomy (I'm 62).  He said that 90% of people who have the first stage ileostomy opt for the redo.

Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with redos and Dr. Remzi.

Thanks a million.

Hi there!

I could've written this myself! I am also having a revision surgery with Dr Remzi (in July) due to mechanical issues and 2 fistula. Also discovered my original pouch is small and had a stricture. No crohns disease found at this point. I'm definitely scared for the surgery but this is my last attempt before a permanent ileostomy. I'm also trying to find out what recovery is like and if it's as bad as the original surgery. Let me know if you'd like to connect as we're both going through the process.

Best of luck!

Remzi did my redo in 2015. Recovery was so much better than my first pouch in 2008 but i had alot of complications with first pouch surgery and spent 10 weeks in hospital and almost died twice from infection
