Pouchogram tomorrow morning. Took the magnesium citrate at noon. Totally shredded and liquid only happening by three in the afternoon. I can’t even take a magnesium supplement without it turning my whole system to water. Do I really need to take the Dulcolax at 6 o’clock if I haven’t eaten anything since noon and I’m already nearly empty out? And then suppository in the morning? Why are we not getting different instructions than people who have full on colons? Any advice right now would be very helpful. Thank you so much.

fyi I’m having Tamis (google it) it’s a surgery thru the anus and my surgeon instructed to have clear liquids two days

surgery is 4/17 and clears are 4/15 abd 4/16 I’m opposite of you and feel I need a prep and won’t be cleaned enough morning of 4/17

always did a prep in 22 years with my jpouch be it tap water enema or miralax with gatorade

each surgeon and de has a protocol

some give over kill prep mild prep or don’t want us to prep just clears

I’m loaded on Gatorade zero and chicken broth to clean out with and purchased fruit popsicles that don’t turn color inside the bowel they’re lemon and lime fkavor

I have a pouchoscopy coming up next Thursday.

first time he suggested the magnesium citrate.  I said no way, it will put me into full IPS.

so I do half of a Miralax prep:

119 Grams with 32oz  of gaterade. This does the job.

don’t  be afraid to speak up. Doctors are used to dealing with the masses. We are all individuals and if you know what works for you, tell the doctor that’s your preference.

Thank you guys for answering. I do feel like this doctor is asking for overkill. And not taking into consideration my system that goes down so quickly. I called the office and his assistance said I had to do all of it. But I’m not going to. It’s not gonna get any cleaner by taking another laxative and dehydrating my body anymore. There’s nothing more to come out. I’m not a meat eater, so nothing’s gonna take a long time. I have to admit I was really surprised at how rude the assistant was, like she got some joy out of telling me I had to do all those extra things. And you know what he did not ask me to do, a water enema. I’ll just drink water only for the 12 hours before the procedure. What it has done more than anything else, is let me know that this is not the doctor I want to do the surgery if I need to have the pouch revised again because it’s grown extra large again, like it was in 2010 and he had to cut a basketball size part of the top.

It is the assistant you are speaking with and not the surgeon.  They do not generally consider cases individually they go by what they are told by the surgeon.  They are unfortunately too used to dealing with patients who own all of their own internal landscape and not prepping properly because they "don't like the taste" or "it makes me poop all day".  If you are certain you are clear and continue to be so then do what works for you.

The assistants have probably been yelled at by the surgeon a time or two for patients who were not prepped properly and the case had to be rebooked.
