Just went to Cleveland clinic. I'm having issues with urgency, 15+ bms, inflammation around my rectum and feels like inside my butthole. He tried to do a scope but I couldn't tolerate any of it (I think swelling is out of control). He said my exterior skin is bad so gave me cream. He suggested immodium to slow my bowels. Anyone take that daily as a daily maintenance drug? I take pepto periodically but I try not to take often. Which is better and can either be taken daily? Or is Metamucil better?

They are scheduling scope and put me to sleep. I've had a scope done before that I was able to tolerate awake. Do most of u do awake or asleep?

Hi,

I take Imodium 3x daily, breakfast, dinner and bedtime.

it has given me a QOL, I would not otherwise have. It’s been three years and without it, I would have fire shooting out of my bum.

when they scope you they will check for pouchitis, Cuffitis and any other abnormality.

while I have not been diagnosed with pouchitis, I’ve had bouts of cuffitis, SIBO and IPS. Any of the above can make our lives miserable.

i hope you get the answers that will lead to relief of your symptoms.

The group here seems more or less evenly split over sedation for pouchoscopy. Certainly if you can’t tolerate it while awake then sedation is necessary.

Each of the drugs has a different purpose, though they can all help with frequency and its consequences. In addition to managing whatever underlying problem you’ve got (e.g. antibiotics for pouchitis, mesalamine for cuffitis, whatever), there are a few basics: psyllium (Metamucil) can bulk up the stool and make it easier to hold and less irritating. Imodium and Lomotil slow the gut and can help pace things better - some use it through the day, others prefer to use it at bedtime. I’m not sure where Pepto-Bismol fits into this, but it seems to help some people. It’s a weak antibiotic, so maybe it’s treating undiagnosed pouchitis.
