Ginger Ale has long been a go-to for me as a remedy for gastrointestinal distress when Pepto Bismol is not readily available. I recall very vividly in October 2014 I travelled to Montreal with a group of friends. At the hotel bar, I ordered and consumed, for the first time in my life, steak tartare. It's essentially raw steak prepared with a pepper sauce. Within 45 minutes, I was feeling extremely ill and nauseous. I excused myself and went to the men's room, where I was certain I would vomit. Instead, I dry heaved around 15 times. After the dry heaves failed to expel any evil, I returned to my table, confiding to one of the friends what just happened. He urged me to order and consume some ginger ale. I did. Within 15 minutes, I felt 100% better. We all then proceeded to our regularly scheduled event. On that occasion, ginger ale was an absolute life saver. It saved my evening. I never threw up. The steak tartare eventually digested, but only after great internal upheaval. The ginger ale seemed to work better even than PB does in the same situations. Instant relief.
