I'm fairly new to this, I had a total proctocoletomy with ileal pouch on 3/01/23. On the 5th day when I was supposed to get released I experienced a blockage, was sent home later on with a catheter and I still had issues, spent the next 2 months in an out of the hospital due to the blockages. I was supposed to have the ostomy bag for 12 weeks but I have to have the reversal done at 6 weeks. I have a lot of issues in the beginning, I constantly had diarrhea but Metamucil and anti diarrhea pills have been my best friend. The only issue I'm having and I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this, is that I have to push on one side of my abdomen to use the bathroom, I've also learned that if I stretch or do some kind of yoga pose it helps, but now I'm having an issue where I feel like I can't empty out the pouch, when I strain and wiped a few days ago, I felt a lot of pressure back there and when I wiped I felt something , no bleeding just freaked out because I felt pressure and I felt like if I pushed any harder the pouch would prolapse. I could swear I touched the part of the pouch when I wiped.

Some folks here have described pressing on their abdomens or yoga-like poses to help empty, and if that works then it seems fine to me, even if not quite by-the-book. Difficulty with pouch emptying, though, needs to be attended to. It can be caused by a variety of things, some of them pretty easy to deal with and some more difficult. When can you get in to see your surgeon or your gastroenterologist?
